Wicker Park Seafood & Sushi Bar Opens at Chicago O’Hare International Airport
HMSHost’s newest restaurant greets Terminal 2 travelers in time for the holidays
BETHESDA, MD – Fresh, appetizing seafood and sushi arrive at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) today. HMSHost Corporation, the creator of engaging travel dining and shopping experiences, and representatives from the Chicago Department of Aviation, feted the opening of the new Wicker Park Seafood & Sushi Bar. Named for Chicago’s famed Wicker Park neighborhood, travelers will find a sleek new restaurant and bar featuring an authentic chef-driven menu of delicious and healthy sushi favorites.
HMSHost created Wicker Park in a space occupied previously by a small beverage kiosk, transforming it into a high style, 104 seat restaurant serving travelers post-security in Terminal 2.
“We are delighted to welcome Wicker Park Seafood and Sushi Bar to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. This new restaurant will provide travelers with healthy and innovative international food choices that reflect our City’s multi-cultural population,” said Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “O’Hare is the global gateway to our city and region, and we strive to meet Mayor Richard M. Daley’s vision to include Chicago’s iconic businesses, restaurants, products and cultural aspects in our airports.”
Wicker Park’s menu is directed by HMSHost’s sushi chef, Susumu Shibata. He is a native of Japan and started his sushi career at Mothashi Restaurant in Tokyo. Shibata has lived in the U.S. for more than 25 years and has gained experience at top restaurants in Los Angeles, Calif. and Santa Fe, N.M. He joined HMSHost early this fall to spearhead the opening of Wicker Park.
Under Chef Shibata’s direction, Wicker Park offers an enticing variety of Nigiri and Sashimi, Maki, entrée salads, and more. Special rolls highlight the menu, such as the Wicker Park Tidal Wave of shrimp tempura, cream cheese, mixed crab, unagi sauce, honey wasabi sauce and tempura crumb, or the Special Veggie Roll with green soy paper, cucumber, avocado, and seaweed salad, to name just a few of the special ingredients.
Dessert options include the Maui Roll, Banana Roll, and Green Tea Tiramisu—a classic layered tiramisu dusted with green tea and garnished with mint and strawberries. Beverages include warm and cold Sake, Sho chu — a delicate, lower alcohol spirit made from a variety of grains and best served on the rocks. A generous selection of cocktails, wine and beer is also available. Travelers in a hurry will find a menu of quick, easy to purchase “to-go” items is available in the display case adjacent to the bar.
“We’re very proud of our partnership with the Chicago Department of Aviation and are excited to open this new restaurant highlighting trendy, flavorful fare in a contemporary setting, just in time for holiday travelers.
