Sustainability
At HMSHost, we believe that each of us must startsomewhere® to make our world a better place. We are committed to working with our customers, partners and the employees at our retail and foodservice establishments around the world to bring that change about.
Our startsomewhere® sustainability initiative recognizes that it takes many small acts to build a better future. We will lead by example to become more sustainable in three major areas:

HMSHost received the 2012 Airports Going Green Award for Excellence in Sustainability Efforts for its startsomewhere sustainability program. This important recognition demonstrates HMSHost’s strong industry leadership and dedication to sustainability efforts in the aviation industry.
According to our recent quantitative measurement of sustainability practices, startsomewhere® continues to have a significant impact.
In 2012, we’ve recycled approximately:
- 1.2 million gallons of cooking oil
- 7.6 million pounds of cardboard
- 1.4 million milk jugs
- 1.4 million pounds of coffee
- 2.0 million bottles and cans recycled back of house (e.g., commissary, kitchen)
- 1.4 million pounds of food donated to food banks
- 11.4 million pounds of of back of house composting
