At HMSHost, we believe that each of us must startsomewhere® to make our world a better place. We are committed to working with our customers, partners and the employees at our retail and foodservice establishments around the world to bring that change about.
Our startsomewhere® sustainability initiative recognizes that it takes many small acts to build a better future. We will lead by example to become more sustainable in three major areas:
According to our recent quantitative measurement of sustainability practices, startsomewhere® is already having a significant impact.
In 2011, we’ve recycled:
- 1.47 million gallons of cooking oil
- 8.3 million pounds of cardboard
- 1.6 million milk jugs
- 1.6 million bottles and cans recycled back of house (e.g., commissary, kitchen)
- 45,000 printer cartridges
- 255,000 pounds of food donated to food banks
