CHICAGO – The Windy City welcomes two stylish new wine bars to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), opening just in time for travelers going through the airport on Valentine’s Day. Over the weekend, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) and HMSHost opened Bubbles Wine Bar in Terminal 3 and Beaudevin Wine Bar in Terminal 1. Both locations offer travelers fine wines and sparkling wines that can be paired with gourmet entrées and small plates, perfect for enjoying with a sweetheart, friends, or solo.

“On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, we are so pleased to welcome Beaudevin and Bubbles to O’Hare and provide to our travelers further world-class dining and drink options,” said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “Beaudevin and Bubbles are examples of the efforts Chicago is committed to making at our airports to cater to our global travelers’ palates with distinctive dining and beverage options, from sit-down restaurants to cafes to wine bars.”

Beaudevin loosely translates into “the beauty of wine.” Located in Concourse C near Gate 17, the wine bar offers travelers to chance to relax in an informal, European-influenced atmosphere, reminiscent of a château cellar, combining traditional design materials with contemporary elements.

By offering travelers a choice of more than 20 red, white or sparkling wines, Beaudevin enhances the wine experience for travelers with wines by the glass, bottle or flight. Small plates including Olives de Provence or figs, as well as tartines including Roasted Herbed Chicken, Turkey Berry Goat Cheese or Scottish Smoked Salmon are designed to complement the floral elegance of a Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio, or the richness and refinement of a Mouton-Cadet Bordeaux or Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Bubbles Wine Bar, located in Terminal 3 near Gate H4, focuses on bubbly beverages together with sushi roll pairings. First introduced by HMSHost at Amsterdam’s Schiphol International Airport and named by Executive Life magazine as one of the “chic-est airport bars,” Bubbles has now crossed the Atlantic to become one of the newest treasures of U.S. domestic airports. With an elegant approach to dining, Bubbles features boutique beers and sparkling wines together with delectable dishes of specialty sushi rolls, such as Maki Classic Rolls including the California Roll or the Spicy Tuna Roll. Specialty Rolls include the Spider Roll with deep fried soft shell crab, avocado, asparagus, chives, spicy mayo and tobiko (red flying fish roe).

“Travelers to and through Chicago O’Hare will enjoy visiting either of these stylish, relaxing wine bars with gourmet menus, where they can linger over a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with a charcuterie plate, or step in for a brief bite of sushi and a pleasant Ecco Domani as they find their way to a nearby gate,” said Stephen Douglas, Vice President of Business Development, HMSHost. “We’re sure Beaudevin and Bubbles will delight travelers and wine lovers of all kinds.”

In support of O’Hare’s ongoing commitment to sustainable best practices, Beaudevin offers several wines made with organically grown grapes. These wines include the Bonterra Chardonnay, King Estate Acrobat Pinot Gris, Benziger Cabernet Sauvignon, Paul Dolan Vineyards Zinfandel, and Parducci Cabernet Sauvignon.

Passengers will be able to enjoy the soothing sounds of piano music and make song requests of pianists when available; however, the piano music won’t end when the pianist’s shift does. Self-playing pianos with more than 2,000 songs will entertain passengers at both wine bars, giving travelers a chance to relax and unwind.

LONDON—The Autogrill Group, together with its subsidiary HMSHost, today announced its new relationship with UK-based Leon Restaurants, involving the opening of a Leon at the redeveloped King’s Cross Station in central London. This partnership marks the entry of Autogrill Group and HMSHost into the UK‟s Network Rail system.

King’s Cross is Leon’s first-ever location in any rail station and it will open to serve customers in mid-March 2012. Leon, with its passion for providing fast food that tastes good and does you good, is bringing its flavourful, natural, “healthy fast food” to travelers at King’s Cross in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

“Our mission is to make it easy for everyone to eat good food. By bringing Leon to the heart of King’s Cross, we are a step closer to proving that fast food can be good food. Food that tastes good and does you good. We are excited to be a central part of such an iconic location. We hope to improve the lives and well-being of people who work nearby and who travel through the station,” said John Vincent, co-founder, Leon Restaurants.

Leon Co-founder Henry Dimbleby added, “We know that to achieve our vision of becoming an international „good fast food‟ business, we will need excellent partners. The HMSHost team is one whom we are proud to be working alongside. We have been struck by their passion, professionalism and strong sense of collaboration.”

“We’re excited to expand our European footprint with a great new restaurant partner, Leon, and with Network Rail at the strategic King‟s Cross Station,” said Michiel Reuvers, Senior Director of Business Development, HMSHost Europe. “Particularly with the Summer Olympics 2012 taking place in London later this year, we‟re confident that the level of quality and fresh, nutritious food offered by Leon will delight travelers and local residents alike.”

Created in 2004 and now with eleven restaurants in and around London, Leon’s mission is to make it easy for everyone to eat good food. John Vincent and Henry Dimbleby started Leon with a vision of creating „fast food heaven‟: Food that tastes good, does you good, doesn‟t cost the earth, is kind to the planet and is served by naturally sunny people.

Leon is also a founding member of the UK-based Sustainable Restaurant Association, and currently holds a “Silver” rating in sustainability for its achievement in offering local and seasonal food, health and safety awareness, and other environmental commitments.

Gavin McKechnie, Head of Retail at Network Rail, said: “We are thrilled to be working with HMSHost and Leon Restaurants to bring passengers an exciting new restaurant to their station. King‟s Cross illustrates our vision for the future of station retailing by creating destination stations with shopping that‟s on the way, not in the way. The new retail and dining mix will be one of the best at a British station, which is great news for passengers, and will complement the increased capacity and better facilities which will also be available.”

The redevelopment of King‟s Cross Station includes a new concourse which opens in March 2012. The new concourse will triple the amount of space in the station and create 25,000 square feet of retail opportunities, all in time to take travellers to the London Olympics later this year.

TORONTO—The nature of airport traveling is one of hurry. Often there is little time to find a bite to eat. At Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), three new fast casual restaurants are now open and making the traveler’s day better. Along with the Airport, HMSHost, a world leader in travel dining and shopping, today celebrated the delivery of Canadian favorites Thai Express, Extreme Pita and Purblendz to guests in the Domestic Pier’s Terminal 1.

“The redevelopment of our retail and dining experience at Toronto Pearson is an essential element of our goal of becoming a global hub and in our ability to attract, serve and delight our guests. Our guests told us they want to see more variety and value so we are excited to welcome these well-known and popular brands to our airport,” said Pamela Griffith-Jones, Chief Commercial Officer at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Thai Express is the leading Thai quick-service restaurant in Canada, combining traditional Thai cuisine with new world design and flavours, which include the freshest ingredients available. All dishes are made to order at a spice level of mild, medium and “extra”. After glancing through the menu, travelers choose a combination of meat and vegetables that together result in robust flavours found in stir fry dishes, or the favourite and traditional Pad Thai.

Extreme Pita and Purblendz are set in a shared space in the Terminal. The brands are based in Mississauga, Ontario, and are part of the Extreme Brandz group of companies, which stands for inspired healthier eating.

With gourmet recipes from around the world, and chef-inspired tastes, Extreme Pita’s menuboard features names like The Chief, Chick-Chick Boom and Uncle Philly. Sandwiches, salads and unique flatbread pitas are also available. Extreme Pita is also the first national quick-service restaurant in Canada to include caloric information on its menu board.

Right next door to Extreme Pita, Purblendz offers all natural smoothies which are great on their own or make a great compliment to a fresh pita or salad. Purblendz smoothies have no additives, boosters or formulated supplements- just natural fruit and vegetables, making our smoothies a healthier option, great tasting and Pure.

“Extreme Pita and Thai Express are terrific healthy, fast casual restaurants and Purblendz is a great way to cap off a meal. The food is fresh, made-to-order and delicious. Travelers will love these new additions to Toronto Pearson,” said Joe Waller, Vice President of Business Development, HMSHost.

All three restaurants are located post-security near Gate 145.

LOS ANGELES – At HMSHost, a leader in travel shopping and dining with restaurants and retail stores in more than 111 airports worldwide, the phrase “act globally, think locally” is demonstrated in its commitment as a long-time partner of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Today, HMSHost‘s Los Angeles International Airport branch presented a donation of $125,000 from its 2011 fundraising campaign to Children‘s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), a proud member of Children‘s Miracle Network Hospitals. Children‘s Miracle Network Hospitals was founded with two simple goals: Help as many children as possible by raising funds for children‘s hospitals and help local children by keeping funds in the community in which they were raised. The event took place at Nate ‘n Al in Terminal 2, HMSHost’s newest LAX restaurant.

“We are both grateful for 2011 and excited about our 2012 partnership with HMSHost at LAX,” said Joanne Reyes, Assistant Vice President, Corporate Partnerships and Cause Marketing for Children‘s Hospital. “The genuine care that HMSHost has already shown to Children’s Hospital is outstanding, and we are proud that HMSHost is helping us create hope and build healthier futures for the children in our community.”

Throughout 2011, HMSHost‘s LAX associates and their families participated in numerous activities including fundraisers, volunteer events and other activities such as:

Walk for Kids 5K fundraiser;

Encouraging travelers to donate to CMN coin donation canisters placed at the registers of HMSHost’s LAX restaurants including California Pizza Kitchen, Brioche Dorée and Starbucks Coffee;

“Christmas in July” toy drive in partnership with Los Angeles World Airports;

HMSHost associates and their families volunteering to sort and label children‘s books donated to CHLA;

“Adoption” of two families in need for CHLA’s Holidays from the Heart program.

The Nate ‘n Al location, operated by HMSHost, will donate 10% of sales from January 17 to 24 to kick off the 2012 fundraising campaign for Children‘s Hospital Los Angeles. The flagship location of Nate ‘n Al — in Beverly Hills — will do the same.

“We‘re excited to be a part of the kick-off to HMSHost‘s second Children‘s Hospital Los Angeles LAX campaign,” said Mark Mendelson, Nate ‘n Al third generation co-owner. “We encourage all travelers who visit our LAX location in mid-January, or our Beverly Hills restaurant, to support this wonderful cause.”

HMSHost raises funds for local hospitals affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in more than 20 airport and motorway locations across the U.S.

“Not only did our LAX associates advocate for CHLA’s mission, but by giving of their time and energy outside of their job duties, they‘ve shown that our 2012 campaign is poised to be just as successful as 2011,” said Rich Bennett, HMSHost Host’s Senior Director of Operations for Los Angeles International Airport. “We also thank all of the travelers who generously donated in support of CHLA, which also made this campaign such a success.”

HYDE PARK, N.Y. – As part of its five-year strategic partnership, HMSHost, a world leader in travel shopping and dining, today announces the winners of a recipe contest featuring students from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the world’s premier culinary college. The winning recipes will be featured over the next year in more than 100 of HMSHost’s proprietary restaurants at airports around the country.

“Our students are thrilled to have the opportunity to show off their creativity and earn scholarships at the same time,” said David Kamen, Project Manager, CIA Consulting. “The college is grateful to HMSHost for its support in helping CIA students pursue dreams of successful careers in the diverse and vibrant foodservice and hospitality industry.”

Hargrove, from Lake Jackson, Texas, won the first place honor with a Macaroni & Cheese Flatbread topped with Candied Bacon and Shredded Brussels sprouts. Fury, who is from Brooksville, Fla., took first place with her recipe of Fried Chicken and Waffles with Country Gravy and Grade A maple syrup.

The month-long submission period in November generated more than 35 recipe submissions from students of all levels at the CIA. The theme of the recipe contest was “All-American Comfort Food,” and students could enter a recipe in both categories of appetizer and entrée.

Once the finalists were selected, four judges chose three finalists in each of the two categories. In the kitchen preparation and in the meal’s presentation, finalists were evaluated on several points:

• Food preparation

• Safety

• Adherence to the exact recipe

• Cleanliness

• Dish plating

• Taste

“HMSHost’s commitment to the CIA, its students and the culinary arts overall is why we’re excited to continue this partnership with one of the world’s best culinary colleges,” said Bill Casey, Vice President of HMSHost’s Restaurant Portfolio.

Winners Jessica Hargrove and Lauren Fury each received $5,000 in scholarship funds, provided by HMSHost. In addition, HMSHost also donated $15,000 to the CIA’s general scholarship fund, as part of its five-year strategic partnership with the culinary college.

BETHESDA, Md. – “I’ve been coming here for 25 years and the food is as good today as it was when I would sit next to the likes of Lew Wasserman and Dean Martin. EVERYONE loves Nate ‘n Al’s and the reason is they serve the best food on the planet!” says a Yelp review of the renowned Beverly Hills deli Nate ‘n Al.

Now, travelers to Los Angeles can experience the airport destination of all things “deli”, now open in Terminal 2 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

HMSHost, a leader in creating great dining and retail stores in travel venues worldwide, brings Nate n Al to LAX travelers as a preview of its coming food & beverage program scheduled to roll out at the airport throughout 2012.

“Nate ’n Al is one of the proven restaurants that puts the “L.A. in LAX,” said Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey. “Adding popular dining and retail concepts that reflect Los Angeles‘ culture, lifestyle, and cuisine adds measurably to the passenger experience.”

Nate ‘n Al has a long and wonderful heritage that spans more than 66 years. The restaurant is considered a landmark in Los Angeles and one of the best delicatessens in the world. Nate ‘n Al epitomizes comfort food, which is just what the LAX traveler needs before or after a flight. A step into the LAX Nate ‘n Al will transport guests back in time, as the walls are full of 66 years of memorabilia, history, and of course, Los Angeles stories.

“We are honored to have the opportunity for the LAX traveler to experience our iconic sandwiches, specialties, and only the best of what Nate ‘n Al‘s of Beverly Hills has to offer,” said Mark Mendelson, Nate ‘n Al‘s third generation co-owner. “My brother David and I are excited to carry on our grandparents‘ legacy of service with the best deli has to offer and giving the best service to the LAX traveler.”

A traditional breakfast at Nate ‘n Al includes Corned Beef and Egg Scramble or a Smoked Salmon Bagel Sandwich. The lunch menu offers Al‘s Chopped Salad (named in honor of founder Al Mendelson) or a Roast Turkey Sandwich with Nate ‘n Al‘s famous Russian dressing. Travelers can also opt for a 1/3 lb. Certified Angus Beef Burger, complemented by the classic deli dessert of New York Cheesecake. A full bar offering of cocktails, beer and wine is available as well.

“Nate ‘n Al is one of the signature restaurants that is a must on everyone‘s list of Los Angeles dining,” said Steve Johnson, Senior Vice President of Business Development, HMSHost. “It is a pleasure to bring one of the cultural icons of L.A. food to the airport. We know that Nate ‘n Al and the terrific new L.A. restaurants we are bringing to LAX in 2012 will definitely make the traveler‘s day better.”

In addition to Nate ‘n Al, several new and inventive restaurants that are uniquely Los Angeles are on their way to Terminal 4 at LAX as part of HMSHost‘s recent contract win in mid-2011. From Campanile’s Mediterranean freshness, to the legendary Cole’s, home of the French Dip, comfort food at 8 Oz. Burger Bar, and a taste of the Left Bank from La Provence Patisserie & Café, flavorful vegan offerings from Real Food Daily, and an ever-changing menu at L.A. Gourmet Street Truck—travelers will know they are in the culturally rich world of food that is inherent to the city of Los Angeles.

Nate ‘n Al is now open. The exciting line-up of these new restaurants will begin serving travelers in late summer 2012.
