HMSHost Opens New Drive-Thru Starbucks at Delaware Welcome Center on I-95

New building adjacent to plaza offers more convenience for drivers

NEWARK, DE — Road-tripping up and down Interstate-95 in Delaware is now more convenient since global restaurateur HMSHost has built and opened a new Starbucks drive-thru on-site at the Delaware Welcome Center. Designed for convenience and ease of use, this freestanding drive-thru is situated just past the larger Welcome Center building along the northbound side of I-95 and can be accessed by northbound and southbound drivers.

“With DelDOT as a partner, we could not be more excited to add another amenity for travelers of the Mid-Atlantic part of the I-95 corridor,” said HMSHost Vice President of Business Development Amy Dunne. “We are so pleased with how the building looks and to be able to offer the unmatched convenience and service of a Starbucks drive-thru for travelers.

The Delaware Welcome Center was originally designed to be a state-of-the-art travel facility; from the plaza’s geo-thermal heating and cooling system, to the sustainable features that enabled it to become LEED certified in 2013. Recently, ongoing efforts to implement pioneering innovations in sustainability and service have continued as more features have been added such as Tesla electric vehicle charging stations and the introduction of the on-site HMSHost Road Hog BBQ seasonal food truck in the summer of 2015, a first-of-its-kind offering. The new building has two main faces, a western pedestrian side and an eastern vehicle ordering side. Walk-in guests can enjoy an airy and bright interior space with seating and private restrooms, while drivers can order from the comfort of their cars while admiring the contemporary exterior before hitting the road.

In line with other features of the Delaware Welcome Center, a commitment to sustainability has been demonstrated in the design and construction of this new Starbucks. Environmental stewardship has been achieved through the selection of high-performance, low-emission equipment such as LED lighting and the use of recycled materials.

Additionally, the Starbucks inside the Welcome Center building will continue to serve travelers who prefer to park and stretch their legs, along with Brioche Doree, Baja Fresh, Cinnabon, Carvel Ice Cream, Burger King, Z-market, Popeye’s, and Famous Famiglia Pizzeria.
